It’s been a long while since I was last here, and alot has changed. For those not in the know, we moved from Switzerland back to our second home – Johannesburg.
At first it was not an easy move, especially for me, but it is turning out to be more than pleasant. I am glad we moved. But I will not lie, moving is tough tough tough, and I am getting to that point where I want to never move again. I want to know my neighbours ‘forever’ not have new ones every couple of years – not practical, I know. But, to avoid the risk of sounding like a 2 year old throwing a tuntrum, let me stay away from ranting.
What brings me here is a question, ” What is life all about ? “
I lost my dearest sister in law, Denzel’s sister. I loved her with all my heart. She was one of the loveliest, unpretentious people I ever met. Did I say I loved her? I am still reeling with pain and anguish, at the thought that she is no more. I wish I could find fitting words to describe P, but I fail. Her girls and mine are about the same age, and I absolutely loved the way she brought up her kids. Practical. She motivated them and was prompt to discipline when such need arose. P had gone back to college, on a part time basis, to further her studies, and seemed very determined to graduate.
There was never a time we visited Kenya and failed to visit her home, usually spending long afternoons eating and chatting. Ever since I knew her, way before Denzel and I married, this is what visiting her home was like. You felt wanted, special, and at the same time, she had a way to make you feel completely comfortable.
We last spoke in July, just before we moved from Switzerland. And then 2 months later, bang! Gone.
People die all the time, but when some people die, we are reminded that life is not permanent, and there is never a warning of when your day will come. It won’t matter whether you have just married, about to graduate, about to finish building your beautiful home, or whether you have just made a new year’s resolution. There is no warning! It doesn’t matter whether you have been taking your vitamins. Nope. When time comes to go you have to go.
Back to my question, ” What is life all about? ” If you ask me, life is about love. Love God, and love the people that God has put in your life.Period.
and to quote the Good Book, Ecclesiastes 12: 13 Now all has been heard, here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man”
