I am trying to be a good teacher to Alex. At 7 years of age, he does not read English well, the reason being that he has been learning in German. Reading German is much like reading Swahili, one only needs to ensure that every letter in a word is pronounced.
I did not realize just how difficult it was to teach one to read English. There are so many exceptions to the rule that my little boy goes all wild-eyed, ” but mum, you said when these two letters are together, I should read it like that!”
But the little boy is getting there. Albeit with lots of yawns to go with it. For motivation, he gets a kiss on the cheeck whenever he manages a new difficult word without assistance. So much so that the girls have complained, “mum, isn’t that too much kissing”
My defence ofcourse is that I am just trying to be a good teacher. And speed is of essence!

lets get good grades….I believe children are fun to work with. you are lucky you teaching your child where there is nobody else doing it..Imagine my daughter insists the teacher said the answer is this or that….the teacher is always right..like i was trying to help her on identifying the one’s, the ten’s, the hundreds, round off to the nearest thousandth…..o my God…I need to go back to class…cos me i know…her she knows but in a format yaani that losses us completely….blame my system. It wasn’t as complicated as 8-4-4 of today
