I know. The new year already rolled in, and we are halfway through Jan of 2009. I don’t know about you but it happens to me all the time, whereby, after I have had a formidable time filled with many memorable moments, I get dumbfounded and say nothing. Kinda like, “Wah! Did all that really happen?!”
That is how my holiday went. First we couldn’t get 5 seats together on the same flight to Kenya, (gnashing my teeth! Next time I will remember to family plan!), and then when we finally got the 5 seats there wasn’t a direct flight to Nairobi! So we made the best of the opportunity and flew to Dubai, and stayed there for 2 days. The weather was good, if you have been in Dubai before it can be uncomfortably hot. At temps of around 24 degrees, it was ’winter’ in Dubai, which for us was the perfect time to see around, which we did to our hearts content. After that it was Kenya sweet Kenya. And what a tranformation from the last time I was home! Nairobi and its environs are clean, green and simply beautiful. And with masses upcountry for Xmas, there were no traffic jams.
But we barely stayed in Nairobi, instead prefering to be kule kule, ushago. My now tight clothes are testimony that we had a blast back home. There is nothing like the lamb choma that my brothers can do and no spice in the world would change that. They are simply delicious, juicy, all the flavour intact and soft. And my mothers Irio! Then at my mum-in law’s place for more meat, more food. Most memorable was talking with my siblings till 5.30 in the morning.
We had a glorious 2 weeks, visiting friends, family and we loooved Westgate. Tell you what, I want home! And the blazing sun was a plus, because I tell you Switzerland is dreadfully cold! Temperatures have been in the negative since we landed on 5th of Jan. Upon our return, when I saw the snow covered airport, a sense of depression settled in. Since then, my thoughts have dwelt much on the Ice Bear. I am convinced that this land was not meant for human habitation, rather for ice bears! I know I was full of praise for the land of the Swiss but I knew that one day, something would pop. It can never be perfect. For Switzerland, this winter has been the undoing. I can’t stand it. There are moments when the snow covered-everything looks beautiful, but that is only when I am indoors and well warmed.
Our Kenyan friend J likes to say that we are economic refugees, and now I agree. Today, if given a good job (real good), I will be on the next plane home.
As far as 2009 goes, I am blank. No resolutions, yet. This time round, I seem to be rolling with the hours. Although I made a decision to make investing a hobby. I haven’t a good knack for this, so I am persuading myself to learn this new art. My lack of a resolution is pretty much unlike me, as I easily fall for such gimmicks practices. Good or bad sign, no clue yet. Though it could have something to do with a possible impeding big decision.
So then, if it is not too late to do so, let me wish you a bountiful 2009!
